The Independent General Practice can provide a full or specific sexual health screen which can help detect possible STDs. There are a number of reason why you might want to have these test done, for instance you are about to start a relationship with a new partner and want to know your sexual health status, you have recently had a risky sexual incident which you are concerned about, You may have symptoms which could be a sexually transmitted disease (STD) or simply because you need peace of mind. Whatever the reason you can be assured that all tests and appointments are 100% confidential.

HIV Test Options
There are a number of options for the HIV test that you require, which depends on when you may have been exposed to the virus. There are 4 types of HIV test, which can detect the HIV virus at different times after possible exposure:
Instant HIV Test (for exposures that occured more than 12 days ago - Results available after 20mins)
10 Day (Early Detection) HIV Test (for exposures that occured more than 10 days ago)
28 Day HIV DUO Test (for exposures that occured more than 28 days ago)
90 Day HIV Antibody Test (for exposures that occured more than 3 months ago)
Erectile Dysfunction or Impotence
Many men feel very embarrassed when they first discuss this problem with their doctor. Erectile dysfunction or impotence is one of the most common sexual problems affecting half of all men over 40, at some point. The IGP can offer advice regarding the physical, psychological or lifestyle issues involved with this problem. A suitable treatment plan can be found which may include tablets, counselling or referral.
The IGP can explain to you all available methods of contraception including risks and benefits, and then tailor your contraception to suit your current lifestyle, health and family history.
Pregnancy and Postnatal Care
From pre-conception counselling, to the detection of pregnancy, through to antenatal care including advice on diet and keeping healthy throughout your pregnancy.
For choice in delivery the IGP can organise referral to the Birth Centre (an NHS facility in Caerphilly) which is a midwife only service, involving obstetricians only when absolutely necessary.
After your delivery we can also offer postnatal care, including a six week post natal check and counselling/realistic advice for new mums.
